How To Help

Volunteer. Donate. Raise Awareness. Share the Facts. Stop the Clot.

We’re frequently asked how to get involved with the work of the National Blood Clot Alliance. Below are a number of different ways that you can help us carry out our mission, with immediate next steps you can take to answer the call and start volunteering today.

If you have any questions about the information outlined below, please contact info@stoptheclot.org. If you are interested in finding out how you can volunteer to help NBCA, please fill out this Volunteer Interest Questionnaire.

Become a Community Thrombassador

NBCA Community “Thrombassadors” is a network of patients, caregivers, and family members committed to spreading blood clot education, awareness and prevention in their communities. In partnership with local organizations, “thrombassadors” share their personal stories—and life-saving information—about blood clots. Through this peer-to-peer program, “thrombassadors” help advance the prevention, early diagnosis and successful treatment of life-threatening blood clots among their neighbors, friends, and colleagues – and across their local communities.

NBCA will host training programs for “thrombassadors,” where members will learn their roles and expectations, resources available to utilize, history about the organization, speaking & media guidelines, blood clot terminology & statistics, and how to be the best blood clot advocate in their community. Certified “thrombassadors” will be able to host their own education and awareness events on behalf of the NBCA.

Corporate Lunch & Learn

Introduce the mission of NBCA to your employer! NBCA will facilitate a ‘Lunch & Learn’ presentation, in-person or virtually, to help bring awareness to your friends and colleagues. Take it one step further and invite your company to sponsor an upcoming NBCA event or even create a team.

Fundraising

Philanthropic gifts offer vital support for this work, helping NBCA fulfill its commitment to create a future in which the number of people suffering and dying from blood clots in the United States is reduced significantly. NBCA invites you to consider making a gift, and, in doing so, to become a partner in the fight against life-threatening blood clots. Get details about the many ways to give to NBCA: Ways to Give

Join Team Stop the Clot

Another fundraising option for you is our Team Stop the Clot® program, where you raise funds and awareness through your participation in any race you choose – be it a local 5K road race, a half-marathon, a marathon, a triathlon, or even an Ironman. Commit to help NBCA share information about the danger of blood clots. Take about five minutes to set up your own fundraising page where you can share your reasons for supporting the National Blood Clot Alliance and let your family and friends know all about it. You’ll be glad you did!

Share Your Story

If you or a loved one have been affected by blood clots, we want to hear from you. You can share your story on NBCA’s website, and help others learn from your experience. Information to help you get started, and the required steps to submit your story to NBCA, are found here: Guidelines for Story Submission.

Social Media

One of the best ways you can help build awareness is by sharing NBCA resources with your friends, family, and personal network of social media contacts. Start with an emphasis on risks, and signs and symptoms, and then you can work with other resources on NBCA’s website to share and get the word out.
