Everything started when I was 16 years old, which was six years ago. I couldn’t breathe, and even while walking a few steps, I was out of breath. I was taken to the hospital for what they thought was a chest infection. They did not think it was blood clots because I was so young.
The next day, though, I found out I had seven clots in each lung. I never got to the bottom of why I had them in the first place, and I do not know where they came from. I got the all-clear six months after my diagnosis.
I am now 23 years old. In April of this year, I felt unwell, and I couldn’t breathe for about a week. I was trying to get help, but my doctor said I was experiencing panic attacks. However, something wasn’t right. My fingernails were turning purple, and my heart was pumping hard. I went to hospital where I had a blood test.
About an hour later, five doctors rushed in to do more tests. I was sent for a CT scan and found out I have more blood clots. I have seven on each lung, but this time was worse because I also had an infection in my lungs, and the right side of my heart was pumping too fast.
I am now on a blood thinner for the rest of my life. I have scans coming up and more blood tests to hopefully find out what is wrong with me. I have hope for the future, and I want you to remember that you’re never alone.
