As told by her husband Danny.
Just a few weeks after my wife and I got married, after an eight-year relationship and many years of courtship, she died suddenly due to a blood clot.
She was a few weeks post routine knee surgery, a surgery that I coincidentally had while we had dated. At 4 p.m., she showed signs of discomfort and fainted at work. I arrived around 4:05, and the medics arrived shortly after.
She knew what was happening and said her goodbyes to me as I tried to lighten the mood with jokes while the medics arrived.
That was it. She didn’t make it to the hospital.
I loved her more than anything in the world. I live my life to honor her beautiful and fun memory and I’ll be doing that for the rest of my life.
We were aware and mildly concerned about the threat of blood clots but followed the recovery directions meticulously and did what we were supposed to do. I blame no one, but I would have loved quicker reactions from everyone. It could have saved her life.
Kassandra was a beautiful person and the love of my life, demonstrated daily by her effortless kindness, willingness to help people, and magnificent, contagious laughter, often heard across the room over any other chatter. I was lucky to have shared my life with her, if only briefly. I will cherish it forever.
