July e-Newsletter | Athletes & Blood Clots

Blood clots can happen to even the most active and physically fit people, including professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike. We at NBCA regularly hear from athletes who have experienced DVT and PE, even at the peak of physical fitness. The one thing that these stories underscore is that blood clots can and do happen to anyone. To help prevent blood clots, it’s important to understand the risk factors and know the signs and symptoms whether you are an athlete or not. Blood clots can be prevented and when they occur can be safely treated. It’s important to share this information with your family and friends so you can help get the word out about life-threatening blood clots. Read more about the important issues surrounding athletes and blood clots from NBCA, including the inspirational story of Former World Champion Swimmer Katie Hoff, who is sharing her experience to highlight that blood clots can and do happen to anyone, even athletes. NBCA extends its appreciation to Janssen Pharmaceuticals for its recent collaboration with our organization in connection with our joint 100 Days of Blood Clot Awareness campaign, which provided NBCA with funding support that will help us update and expand our educational resources focused on the topic of athletes and blood clots.
