I Wasn’t Expected to Live: Michael’s Story

I Wasn’t Expected to Live: Michael’s Story

In 2014, I was having pain in my stomach. I went to a local doctor and he told me it was my gallbladder.

I weighed around 380 pounds at the time. I was scheduled for the operation, but I knew something wasn’t right a couple days before. On April 14, I had my surgery. Afterwards I had trouble breathing and they kept me overnight.

Upon my discharge the next afternoon, I went to put my shoes on. The next I knew, I was on the floor. A nurse did CPR, and I was taken for an echocardiogram and X-ray. The doctor told my wife I had blood clots and I wasn’t expected to live. I woke up five days later. I spent 13 days in the hospital and was off work for five months.

My wife and I got foster care license that November. In 2015 we got I boy that they we fell in love with and we adopted him on August 11, 2016. I’m a dad now! I retired four years ago. I’m enjoying my life. God was good to me. He let me live.
