The National Blood Clot Alliance (NBCA) is calling on its community of survivors, families, and advocates to help fill a sudden and devastating gap in funding.
Due to sweeping cuts this spring to federal health agencies, the CDC’s Division of Blood Disorders and Human Genomics has been dismantled.
This division was NBCA’s primary partner within the federal government, supporting essential public health education and awareness programs aimed at preventing blood clots and saving lives.
The consequences are real and immediate. Blood clots already impact an estimated 900,000 Americans each year and claim the lives of 100,000 annually. Most of these deaths are preventable, but without education and awareness, more lives will be at risk.
In response, NBCA has launched an emergency fundraising campaign. This effort aims to help replace the federal funding that was eliminated and ensure NBCA’s life-saving programs can continue.
NBCA Volunteer President Leslie Lake pledges to personally match every donation through September 30, up to $100,000, the largest individual gift in NBCA’s history.
“I found NBCA after my pulmonary embolism in 2018 when I was at my lowest, and the resources and support it provided helped me heal physically and mentally,” Leslie said. “I want to ensure these resources and support remain available to others many years into the future.”
Your support will help us raise $100,000 and unlock an additional $100,000 in matching funds for a total of $200,000 to support life-saving blood clot education, advocacy, and patient resources.
More specifically, your donation will be used to support:
- Life-saving public health education like our PEP Talks
- Identifying medical institutions who are leaders in blood clot care with the NBCA VTE Centers of Excellence
- Survivor-led outreach through our Thrombassador program
- Efforts to reach underserved, high-risk populations
- Patient support and resources
If you or a loved one has found support through NBCA, this is your chance to give back. Please make a donation today and Leslie will match it, doubling your impact.
