Navigating Health Insurance Choices

NBCA recently partnered with the National Disability Navigator Resource Collaborative (NDNRC) to provide information on blood clots and how people affected by them may have special health insurance needs.  The purpose of the NDNRC is to provide cross-disability information and support to health insurance navigators and other enrollment specialists thereby ensuring people with disabilities receive accurate information when selecting and enrolling in insurance through the Affordable Care Act Marketplaces.

The information on blood clots is posted on the NDNRC website at http://www.nationaldisabilitynavigator.org/ndnrc-materials/fact-sheets/population-specific-fact-sheet-blood-clots/.

Blood clots can cause disability and ongoing treatment needs in some people, thereby affecting their health insurance options.  Similarly, people with disabilities, such as spinal cord injury, may be at heightened risk for blood clots as a result of their physical condition.  In either case, the presence of blood clots or a risk of clots can affect health insurance choices.

NBCA knows that access to the right kind of medical care is often critical to people who have blood clots and disabilities.  Informed and engaged individuals, their families and their caregivers are best able to achieve the goal of the right care, at the right time.
