Volunteer Spotlight: Vic Koziura

Volunteer Spotlight: Vic Koziura

This month, the National Blood Clot Alliance recognizes and celebrates NBCA’s June Volunteer of the Month, Vic Koziura. Vic reached out to NBCA in 2014 after the tragic loss of his 31 year old son, Rob, who suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism (PE) as a result of a hereditary antithrombin III deficiency. Rob sought treatment for this clotting disorder prior to his PE.  On January 19, 2013 Rob was admitted to the ICU with blood clots in his heart and lungs. Sadly, his concerns were dismissed because of his healthy appearance.

An avid cyclist, talented photographer, loyal fiancé, loving uncle and son, Rob’s family wanted to do something to honor Rob’s life and accomplishments while raising awareness of deadly blood clots. The Koziura Family formed the non-profit foundation, ‘For a Probable Koz’. Each year, the Foundation hosts various events including the very successful golf tournament at Frenchman’s Reserve Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.  Funds raised support NBCA’s mission of awareness and prevention.

Vic, on behalf of NBCA board, staff and supporters, thank you for all that you’ve done for our organization and the lives you’ve touched through raising awareness.
