Feb. 2026 PEP Talk: Recognizing Blood Clots in Unexpected Places

February 10, 2026

Blood clots don’t always appear where you expect them. Beyond the legs and lungs, blood clots can also occur in less common areas of the body. These unusual clot locations can lead to delayed treatment, confusing symptoms, and serious complications if not recognized early.

In this PEP Talk, expert guest Dr. Stephan Moll of UNC will explain:

  • The most common uncommon clot locations
  • Symptoms that are frequently misdiagnosed or overlooked
  • When to push for imaging and which tests are needed
  • Risk factors that raise your chances of an atypical clot
  • How to advocate for yourself when something “doesn’t feel right”

This session will help you understand the warning signs of unusual clots, ask the right questions, and feel more confident navigating the diagnostic process, even when symptoms don’t fit the typical picture.
