<itunes:summary>This series delves into the issues surrounding blood clots caused by thrombophilia. Each quarter we dive into timely topics concerning awareness, prevention and treatment. Look for our Podcast in the iTunes Music Store</itunes:summary>
<description>The mission of the National Alliance for Thrombosis and Thrombophilia, hereby referred to as NATT, is to prevent, diagnose and treat thrombosis and thrombophilia through education, advocacy, support and research. We believe that by raising awareness of this disease, both in the general public and among health care professionals, we can better protect the American people. NATT is a patient-led advocacy organization that was founded in 2003 at a thrombosis and thrombophilia workshop at the Centers for Disease Control by patients and medical professionals who were driven by a resolve to build a national organization to advocate, educate and support those afflicted with blood clots because they themselves have been affected.</description>

<title>Surgeon General's Call to Action against DVT and PE</title>
<itunes:author>NATT</itunes:author>
<itunes:summary>Dr. Steven K. Galson issued a Call to Action against DVT and PE, advocating the importance of understanding risk factors, associated symptoms and prevention strategies to reduce the number of individuals who develop DVT and PE nationwide. Although this Call to Action does not necessarily mean that the government is going to pay for activities, we, being concerned citizens and affiliates of NATT, can now tell people that the Surgeon General has formally stated that VTE is a major health issue affecting the American public. This lends even more power to messages aimed at increasing awareness about DVT/PE and highlights the urgency to do something about DVT/PE prevention.</itunes:summary>
