Chapter Development Moratorium
Effective January 2010, the National Blood Clot Alliance (formerly NBCA) has placed a moratorium on new chapter development for the next 12-18 months. We will continue to focus attention on chapters currently in development, as well as on strengthening national programs and infrastructure to better support our constituents throughout the country. NBCA's Overall Vision
The National Blood Clot Alliance (NBCA) is a patient-led advocacy organization that includes many of the nation’s foremost experts on blood clots and blood clotting disorders. NBCA combines the unique perspectives of health care providers, individuals afflicted with clotting disorders and community leaders who are passionate about this health care crisis. Our organization is committed to providing education about the risks, signs, symptoms and prevention of blood clots and clotting disorders to:
-
Patients and families
-
Healthcare providers
-
The general public
NBCA’s Chapter Vision
It is the vision of NBCA leadership to develop a nationwide network of chapters that will serve as an extension of the national organization into local communities. Our Chapter Development Plan is intended to serve as the framework for implementing this vision. As a community based organization, the basics of our successes will be the 3 – R’s:
-
Reaching people with education, information and awareness programs
-
Raising funds for ongoing support
-
Recruiting volunteers to fulfill the mission
In 2008, NBCA began its chapter development strategy by launching
a chaptersin MN (Minneapolis /St. Paul). In 2009, we are exploring other chapter markets including Washington DC. Within five years, it is NBCA’s goal to establish chapters in key market areas with the capability of reaching enough communities to cover more than 75% of the US population.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) regional boundaries established for the Hemophilia and Thrombophilia Treatment Centers will be used as a framework in deciding the regional distribution of chapters.
NBCA’s Chapters
Chapters are volunteer entities (made up of patients, business, civic and medical leaders) authorized by a Chapter Agreement with NBCA to generate revenue, promote awareness, education, outreach and support for thrombosis and thrombophilia within a defined market area.
Once established in each major market, and as a nationwide network, an ongoing flow of awareness, education, advocacy and fundraising activities will be generated, as with other well-established national health organizations.
NBCA is committed to combating the devastating effects of blood clots and clotting disorders and we appreciate your interest in making this happen. We are seeking individuals with the skills, interest and commitment to help NBCA implement its mission at the local level. Many options for involvement are available to you such as:
-
Volunteering within an existing NBCA chapter

-
